CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has arrested and charged a woman in connection to the shooting death of her 60-year-old mother just days before her birthday.
Police have charged Nakonia Nicholson, 36, with the murder of Annie Nicholson, 60.
At 10:32 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 CMPD officers were called to the 400 block of Orange Street to an 'assist medic' call for service.
Upon arrival, police found a woman with an unknown injury. She was transported to Presbyterian Hospital. At the hospital it was discovered by doctors that the woman was suffering from a small gunshot wound. Later in the day, Annie Nicholson died from her injuries.
Information gathered during the course of the investigation led detectives in identifying Nakonia Nicholson as a suspect in this deadly shooting. She was taken to CMPD headquarters where she was interviewed by homicide detectives and subsequently charged with voluntarily manslaughter.
Nakonia Nicholson remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
This deadly shooting marks the 68th homicide of the year.
