CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - A Charlotte woman said she spent $8,000 on a matchmaking service - that didn't result in a single date in almost one year.
Kelly Dieter signed up for Charlotte Matchmakers in September 2015. Dieter's contract reads for the $8,000 payment, she will receive 16 referrals.
Dieter said her matchmaker explained that a referral is a "date" and she would have the right to refuse a date with potential matches if they did not meet her criteria, without it counting towards her 16 referral.
The criteria for Dieter was to be a Christian, never been married, no children, at least 5'8 (her height) and to have the same income or greater of about $100,000.
"What they told me is that they had hundreds of men come through the door every day and it would be no problem finding a match for me and here nine months later...I haven't had a single match," Dieter said.
FOX 46 Charlotte reached out to Charlotte Matchmakers. The group said it is "seriously reviewing her program to determine if a refund is warranted."
Dieter said she just hopes a refund will come her way so she can break up with the matchmakers and move on.
"Honestly speaking, I was taken advantage of and I hope other viewers will watch this and learn from it," Dieter added.
Dieter said she had been fighting to get any sort of refund response since March with no luck.
"I turn around, try to get my money back and it's like pulling teeth," Dieter said. "You could never get anybody on the phone and when you do they pretty much laugh at you."
The Better Business Bureau has had four complaints of Charlotte Matchmakers. All cases have been resolved. They currently have a B- rating.
