Woman dies from injuries three weeks after east Charlotte wreck

- A woman has died from her injuries after being involved in a serious two vehicle wreck in east Charlotte about three weeks ago, police said. 

The crash happened Wednesday, May 9 at 1:24 p.m. in the 7500 block of Pence Road. 

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Benjavan Pandech Yaemmongkol was driving a Toyota Sienna minivan when she crossed the double yellow center line into oncoming traffic striking a Chevrolet Impala head-on, driven by Thelma Clark Clyburn. 

The front seat passenger of the Toyota, identified as Dorothy Clark Witherspoon, was transported to CMC-Main with life threatening injuries. Yaemmongkol was transported to CMC-Main with non-life threatening injuries. Clyburn was transported to Novant Health with serious injuries.  

On Thursday morning, May 31, Witherspoon was pronounced deceased due to the injuries she sustained during the crash. 

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision, police said.

At this time, the case remains under investigation.
