Woman lucky to be alive after gun battle send bullets into home

- A peaceful night was turned upside down in one East Charlotte neighborhood when shots rang out, hitting two homes while people were inside.

Neighbors tell FOX 46 Charlotte that investigators found about a dozen shell casings laying in the street Tuesday night. Neighbors fear it was a gun battle between two groups.

"I am never surprised," said an 82 year-old woman, whose home was hit by at least two bullets.

East 17th and North Davidison Street in Optimist Park is just a stones throw from NODA. The normally quiet area has seen its share of activity before.

"We have had some incidents where someone's car came down the hill and ran into the house," said the woman.

But according to the woman, never any violence like what happened Tuesday night.

"I heard a shot. About 4 shots outside," the woman said.

Someone or more than one person, shot off rounds in the street, hitting two homes in the process.

The 82 year-old woman, who didn't want to give her name, tells FOX 46 Charlotte she heard the gunfire from her bathroom, but never heard police responding.

"Let me call and see if they know that someone is shooting," she said.

Within minutes of the 911 call, CMPD arrived. They collected what evidence they could, while also finding two bullet holes in the woman's home. Somehow, the bullets never hit anyone inside.

"Everyday day, I say a special prayer," said the woman.

Perhaps it was that prayer, or the cross hanging inside the front door, that kept her and her neighbors safe along North Davidison Street.

"See things happen. My thing is, now that I know someone shot at the house and no one is hurt, I do hope that they find the person," said the woman.

CMPD says they have not made any arrests in this case.
