CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A woman renting a room to a man discovers he’s a con artist. She now fears for her life and the lives of her children. The woman who asked to only be identified as Shameka moved to North Charlotte in January is now being terrorized.
Shameka said a friend asked her to rent a room to an acquaintance as a favor, she did. The man moved in in April and was supposed to move out in July but she granted him an extension until August 1. She was away on a trip and returned August 5, that’s when she discovered her tenant was a conman.
"I feel like me and my kid's life is in danger. I feel like the police department isn't trying to meet me halfway. I feel like my kids shouldn't feel threatened in their home,” Shameka said.
She entered the suspects room on Sunday to see if he was packed but she uncovered Materials she believed were part of an illegal fraud scheme.
"He had pictures of himself with other people's identities, he had names, social security, dates of birth, addresses their family member's information."
She called police and changed the locks but CMPD told her there was nothing they could do because no one knows the suspects real name. Police needed to collect the mounds of evidence in his room but according to Shameka a judge denied their warrant.
"Passports, he got the machines to make the ID's, he has the scanners, he has the laminating machines, he has the hot presser, he has everything."
The suspect told Shameka his name was Aaron Greene. But she found nearly a dozen ID’s with his picture listing different names. Several of the ID’s were from North Carolina but there were also others from Indiana and Maryland. The conman also had several passport cards with his face and an alias.
Some of the names listed on the ID’s include Bradley White, Aaron Miller, Matthew Greene, Brian Hunter and Michael Repsch. There was also an ID for a woman with the name Nicole Lapsys.
"He's threatening to kick my door in. He told me I had 24 hours to let him in the house, if I didn't let him in the house he was gonna shoot my house up. He also told me that he's not going to be the only person taking a loss I'll be taking a loss as well; I won't be able to live in my house anymore."
CMPD didn't respond to FOX 46’s request for information. They only provided the police report which listed intimidation, communicating threats, and financial identity fraud. Shameka said she has reached out to police several times and no one has followed up with her on the investigation.
"Something has to be done. So, if I have to go down there every day, if I have to stand out there until somebody hears me and tries to help me then that's just what I'm gonna do."
Shameka’s brother, Julius Williams, had two encounters with the suspect. The first was in person outside of the house where he told him to leave. The second encounter was over the phone. Williams described the suspect as a psycho and manipulative. He told FOX 46, he believes the suspect would carry out the threats that he’s made to Shameka.
“I’ve been here basically protecting her making sure that everything is okay that the kids are safe and she’s safe.”
Shameka said she tried to secure an arrest warrant for the suspect for communicating threats but the magistrate denied her request because she didn’t know the suspects real name. She said the suspect drives passed her house in a Black Chevy Malibu as well as a black Audi. She provided a description of the cars to police but said they can’t track the car because he took off the license plates.
Shameka is hoping someone will recognize the suspects picture and contact police. She said she wants him arrested so that she and her family feel safe and so that the victims whose identities he’s stolen can get their lives back.
