CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are searching for a carjacking suspect after a woman says she was robbed right outside of her own home in the Wilmore neighborhood in west Charlotte.
FOX 46 spoke exclusively to the victim and her roommate on Wednesday, who are both still pretty shaken up.
“Basically she had just pulled up after getting off work and someone put a gun to her window and said get out of the car and took her phone, laptop and drove the car off,” the victim’s roommate said.
The victim told FOX 46 she just moved in with her friend a week ago, and was finishing up listening to a podcast when she was approached by a man wanting her car
“She was banging on the door saying call 911, call 911 my car was just stolen,” the roommate said.
According to the police, the carjacking happened around 5:45 p.m. Both the victim and her roommate say they are still processing the scary event.
“I was in shock. I think we both are because after something like that happens it just takes a minute to process it until the emotions really set in on what happens.”
She says for her, Wednesday’s carjacking was even more surprising because crime hasn't been a problem in the two years she's lived in the neighborhood.
“It’s always felt really safe here, but I guess anything can happen anywhere and you just need to be on the lookout. All of the neighbors know what happened. We are going to be more vigilant and just keep an eye on each other.”
