Woman's purse snatched at Walmart, suspect subdued by good Samaritans

A thief is behind bars in York County all thanks to a few good Samaritans.

York Police said a man snatched a woman’s purse while she was loading her groceries into the car but he wasn’t able to get far.

Around 9:30 Saturday morning a 73 year old woman was loading groceries into her car when witnesses say 28 year old Robert Jenkins snatched her purse out of her car and took off running.

“I heard the lady say stop he’s got my purse and like I said, I thought they were playing some type of joke or a Youtube video or somebody was messing with them. But then sure enough we saw the guy and he was high stepping with the pocketbook and my wife was like Wes Get him,” said Wes Davis.

Davis had just finished shopping with his wife and said several people started chasing Jenkins down. One good Samaritan knocked him to the ground but he got away.

“I thought that that pretty much the chase was over with, I had got on the phone, but he took off running again so I kept going after him.”Davis said Jenkins threw the purse at him when he got close.

Jenkins girlfriend Misty Padgett was circling the parking lot trying to get Jenkins in her car.

“She kind of came through like she was trying to scoop him up and he was trying to get her to stop. He was begging her to stop because he done had it. Like I said the one guy done hit him a few times and this is right before we got to him but she didn’t want to stop.”

Davis and another man tackled Jenkins to the ground and held him until the police arrived. Padgett left the scene but police found her and the stolen car at a nearby gas station.

“I live here you know my parents go to that store, my kids go to that store you know so, that’s not the type of person you want in the community.”
