YORK COUNTY, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - It was a chaotic scene unfamiliar to a rural area of York as a man was shot and killed by a deputy early Friday morning.
“It was shocking because it's quiet out here,” said York resident Joann Tarbrake.
According to York County Sheriff's Department, one of their deputies shot 33-year-old Trent Fondren who later died at 753 East Old Limestone Rd.
“It’s pretty quiet out here. we don’t get a lot of anything that's why we bought a house out here,” said Natasha Tarbrake, who also lives in York County.
No deputies were hurt or taken to the hospital, but those at this home just down the street from where police say the shooting happened were already on alert.
“My mustang was broken into this morning and they said they tried to steal it,” said Keith Smith, another resident in the home.
Deputies weren't able to tell Keith if that had anything to do with the shooting that happened just a few hours later, but neighbors say due to Friday morning's chaos they'll be more cautious.
“Start looking up our vehicles. I’ve been here 10 years and never had to worry about that,” Joann said.
“We have young children that play on the playset over there and I think we will be watching them even more closely,” said Natasha.
