YORK, S.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A man has been arrested in connection to a number of sexual assaults involving a child, York Police said.
Lester Varnadore, 50, is accused of sexual misconduct with a minor. The assaults occured in York, and were reported in November of 2018, according to the police report.
According to the report, Varnadore is the victim's stepfather. Police say the victim stated that the sexual assaults occurred while the mother was away at work.
The report also states that the victim had tried to tell her mother about the assaults, and that her mother did not believe her.
The victim's mother spoke with detectives at a later date, confirming that her daughter told her about the attacks, but she didn't believe the girl because she had been known to lie, the report said.
The victim was then taken into protective custody.
York Police learned of the incident through a member of social services at a middle school, where a case worker had been alerted of the issue.
