YORK COUNTY, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Rock Hill man’s family made a heartbreaking discovery when they found 45-year-old Scottie Starnes inside his house unresponsive, late Monday afternoon.
The York County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s office are calling his death a homicide and are working together on the investigation.
York County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Starnes house in the 1400 block of Old Friendship Road. A neighbor who only identified himself as Steve said the number of cops caught his attention.
“I was amazed to see so many cops in one area,” said Steve.
Steve lives across the street and said he was on his way home from work when he saw as many as 20 police cruisers outside of Starnes house.
“Thinking there had to be a murder or homicide or something going on, something big for this area.”
The Coroner’s Office said autopsy and toxicology results are pending but so far no motive or cause of death has been released.
Family members were back at the house Tuesday afternoon, but did not want to talk. Neighbors tell FOX 46 that Starnes was a Lyft and Uber driver.
“The way life is things could happen to anybody at any time it’s like lightning strikes or shark bites,” said Steve.
A private biohazard company was also at the house Tuesday afternoon, cleaning inside the house. One neighbor told FOX 46 she just moved in and was in disbelief that someone died right next door.
