Man found in Minivan Hit and Run

The man involved in the hit and run last Friday morning has been arrested.

CMPD responded to a Crime Stoppers tip with a minivan matching the description given in the 5800 block of Redmann Road.

According to CMPD, Major Crash Investigation Unit responded as well and found the suspect, Jose Luis Rivera. He was charged with felony hit and run and filing a false police report and taken to Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Police have identified the minivan that hit a cyclist on Central Avenue Friday morning,

CMPD says the person driving a silver Ford Windstar minivan hit David Spranger on his bike. The minivan hit Spranger's back bike tire. The driver stopped briefly, then drove away from the accident.

Spranger went to the hospital with life threatening injuries. His mangled bike was left behind at the scene as he went to the hospital.
Police believe that minivan is between the 1999-2003 models. It may have damage to the hood, passenger side wind shield, or other minor damage to the front.
