The Carolina Panthers final preseason game has blossomed into an annual affair with the Pittsburgh Steelers, meeting for the 14th consecutive season tonight.
Following a lackluster performance from the offense last week against New England, the Panthers will look to rebound against the Steelers. While it is highly doubtful that the reigning league MVP Cam Newton takes any snaps, there is still plenty to watch in the last exhibition tune-up prior to the regular season.
Backup quarterback Derek Anderson missed time in practice this week due to soreness and with his availability up in the air, reserve Joe Webb may get the start. A week ago, Webb led two touchdown drives during the fourth quarter generating the only true offense for the Panthers. Carolina fell to 1-2 for the preseason and will look to finish .500 with a victory tonight. The annual Panthers and Steelers showdown is set to kick off at 7:30pm in the Queen City.
Carolina won last year's meeting, 23-6 in Pittsburgh. Webb, who connected with tight end Marcus Lucas twice last week, also found him a year ago during this game. A 17-point second quarter propelled the black and blue to victory behind many backup position players.
