Petition calls for stricter punishment in wake of deadly school bus crashes

- A petition posted on WhiteHouse.gov is calling for stricter punishment after multiple children have been killed in school bus crashes across the country in the last several weeks. 

The petition needs 97,858 signatures by November 30, 2018 to get a response from the White House. 

Created on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the petition asked for school bus safety to become federal law.

The petition is requesting jail time for any drivers that violate red lights on a school bus. 

"We call upon our President and Congress to act by signing legislation that will keep our children safe by instituting severe penalties on ppl who choose to violate the red lights on a bus such as 30 days in jail, 90 day dl suspension, 12 points on license and a mandatory minimum fine of $5000.00 for the first offense," it reads.

On Oct. 30, three siblings were killed in Indiana while trying to catch their school bus. A pickup truck struck and killed them, authorities said. The driver was charged.
