Police: Heroin overdose leads to arrest of Gastonia drug dealer

When a man overdosed on heroin, Gaston County Police say they charged his drug dealer with murder.

42-year-old Charles Edward Tallent was arrested Wednesday in the murder of Lester Teague.

The several month investigation is due to an overdoes incident that happened on December 11, 2014 off York Hwy where 51-year-old Teague was found dead in his home.

Tallent was charged with one count of felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance, one count of felony sell/deliver schedule I controlled substance, and second degree murder, according to Gaston police.

Tallent's secured bond is set at $1 million.

Sergeant J.D. Cole with the Gaston County police department says if someone dies from taking an illegal substance after getting it from a dealer, the law allows for them to charge the dealer with the person's murder.
