CHARLOTTE, N.C. - CMPD is asking South Charlotte neighbors to be on the lookout for a suspect and another man wanted for robbing a restaurant in the Arboretum. Some shoppers say they are shocked it happened in a popular, affluent shopping center, others are keeping their eyes open.
Police say a man broke into New South Kitchen and held employees at gunpoint. He got away with a thousand dollars. The manager tells Fox46 Charlotte he is thankful no one was hurt.
“Crime happens everywhere!” said James Smith who shops at the Arboretum. “And it you can catch someone in the act its always better.”
According to investigators, a man broke in the back door of the restaurant Tuesday night around 9:30PM. He threatened five employees with a gun, then stole a thousand dollars from the safe. Police say another man acted as the lookout during the hold up. The pair took off running down Providence Road.
“I’ve seen exactly that happen at another shopping center up the road,” said Arie Goldstein who was not surprised at what happened Tuesday night. “It wasn’t shocking but it was disappointing.”
According to the police report, the suspect who broke in could also face charges for kidnapping and assaulting a female, plus the robbery charges.
