Rochester special ed teacher charged with having sex with 2 students

- A Rochester High School teacher was fired and now charged with having sex with two students.

Kathryn Houghtaling is just 26 years old and is a newlywed. Her Facebook page, now removed from the site, paints a picture of an ideal, suburban life. Now, she's without a job and facing charges for sleeping with her underage students.

The special education teacher is expected to be charged Friday morning in an Oakland County courtroom with six counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The alleged encounters involve a 16- and 17-year-old boy.

"It's absolutely disgusting. She deserves to get everything that happens to her," said neighbor Bart Fox "You're 26, you still have your whole life ahead of you, you really had to take advantage of children?"

Sources tell FOX 2 Houghtaling engaged in sexual acts with the teens after school hours in a vehicle off-campus and in an apartment.

The news has parents and Houghtaling's neighbors wondering if there were signs the school missed.

This week Rochester Community Schools sent a letter to parents informing them Houghtaling was fired, but did not give many details about why.

A spokesperson with the district tells FOX 2 they're committed to providing a safe environment for every student.

FOX 2 went to Houghtaling's house where she lives with her husband but there was no answer. Neighbors say they are deeply disturbed at the allegations.

"They are not adults yet they haven't seen life they don't know what life is about yet," Fox said. "For that to happen you kind of took a part of life away from them."

Kathryn Houghtaling is scheduled to be in court at 10 a.m. Friday in Rochester Hills.
