Tennis great Serena Williams discovered an entirely new kind of service at the Hopman Cup in Australia on Monday.
Feeling sluggish after losing 6-0 in the first set against Flavia Pennetta, Williams figured why not, and ordered a double shot of espresso -- the only question being whether a player could actually order espresso, let alone any caffeinated beverage during an in-progress match.
"I was just feeling it, so I just had to get some coffee into me," Williams said. "I just asked them to get me a shot of espresso -- I asked them if it was legal, because I've never done it before. I needed to wake up."
Apparently such an order is allowed and Williams won the following two sets 6-3, 6-0, possibly ushering in a new era of tennis that can only be undone by coffee jitters.
