Superbug found in 2 patients in North Carolina

There are 2 current cases of Superbug CRE at CMC Lincoln. A spokesman said the patients acquired the superbug outside the hospital, and it was detected when they were admitted.

CRE is a family of bacteria that is resistant to many common antibiotics. The bacteria can cause infections in patients who have other serious medical problems or who are "undergoing operations or other invasive procedures," health officials said.

CMC Lincoln does not perform endoscopy procedures, which were determined to be the cause of the many of the cases out in CA.

A hospital in UCLA is warning patients after an outbreak was traced to a pair of medical scopes. In LA, Seven patients have been infected with the bacteria, and two of them have died, LA hospital officials said.
