Two boys lead Salisbury Police on high speed chase after stealing car

Two young boys led Salisbury Police on a chase with a stolen car.

Police tell FOX 46 the boys stole a Volvo from a Marriott parking lot and took it for a joyride. This incident happened around midnight on Sunday.

Officers say they pulled the car over and that's when the 14-year-old driver took off traveling as fast as 70 MPH. The car ended up crashing into a tree.

Salisbury Captain Melonie Thompson said, "Its heartbreaking. The first thing that comes to your mind is, where are the parents? Why are an 11 year old and a 14 year old out at 11 o'clock at night? and further more, why are they breaking into cars?"

Family and friends had to come pick up the kids and babysit them until the children's mother couldn't get them. She was in Charlotte at the time. Police are looking to charge the 14-year-old with felony fleeing to elude officers, possessions of stolen vehicle and operation without license.
