Wallace Farm in Huntersville up for permit renewal

Wallace Farm in Huntersville is up for a permit renewal.

An approval by state environmental officials would grant it an additional 5-year operating permit, but people who live nearby want to make sure the regulations in the permit are upheld.

State officials hosted a public hearing for the community and the farm to air out concerns. Wallace Farm has been operating as a compost facility since the 90's and uses materials like yard waste, food waste, and animal manure to produce compost and mulch for residential and commercial use.

The smell from the site has been a concern for surrounding neighborhoods in the past. Some neighbors say utilize the farms products and believe it’s a benefit. The public has until August 17th to comment on the permit.
