Bigger than one guy, Panthers discuss rescinding Josh Norman's franchise tag

The Carolina Panthers General Manager, Dave Gettleman opened the pre-draft press conference with a statement on cornerback Josh Norman.

The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday that the team has rescinded the non-exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman.

"The one year deal became less and less attractive," Gettleman said.

He would not discuss any of the negotiations of Norman's deal.

When Gettleman was asked about the message it sends to the locker room he responded with, "We want people that are going to be all in."

Gettleman said no doors have been shut. "We respect Josh," he said.

Coach Ron Rivera said he trusts Gettleman on this  move.

Gettleman said, "We are going to take the best player available."

Coach Rivera said Kelvin Benjamin, Luke Kuechly and Bené Benwikere are all on track.

"Cam is back in town, he looks good and is focusing on the upcoming season," Rivera said.
