Report: Panthers LB Shaq Thompson involved in collision with ex-Duke QB

Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson was cited for driving left of center Sunday morning after a car accident that left former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone in a Charlotte hospital.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. Sunday, May 22 off of Potter Road in Weddington, North Carolina.

According to Highway Patrol, Shaq was driving home when he dropped his cell phone.

He reportedly reached down to pick it up and began swerving. Another car was in the oncoming lane and also began swerving. The two vehicles collided head-on.

Boone was the driver of the other vehicle involved. He was transported to CMC Main with a broken pelvis.

Shaq was not injured and tested below the legal limit for alcohol in his system.

Police said Shaq was issued a citation for driving left of the center.

"Shaq informed us he was involved in a traffic accident and we are in the process of gathering more information," Panthers spokesman Ryan Anderson said.
