Enzo Martinez is one of the most electrifying players in the United Soccer League. He's a wiz with the ball at his feet, he can distribute effortlessly, and most importantly, he can put the ball in the back of the net.
Enzo, 26, was born in Uruguay, but moved to Rock Hill, SC with his family in 2000. As a stranger in a new country he found solace in soccer.
"It's everything to me," said Enzo. "It's a way I have been given a chance in life."
He excelled on the pitch in the states winning titles with his club team, at Northwestern High School, and at the University of North Carolina.
In the 2012 MLS draft he was taken 17th overall by Real Salt Lake, but failed to play in any games during that season.
In 2015 he found his comfort zone again when he got to reunite with his brother Alex, who he played with growing up, and play close to home for the Charlotte Independence.
"I don't think there is another place out there for me that could make me feel the way I do about this town and this team," said Enzo.
The familiarity lead him to play some of the best soccer of his career. In 2016 he was a finalist for USL MVP while leading his team to the post season.
In 2017 he's got the team once again in playoff position and was recently named to the USL team of the Week.
