SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - FOX 46 Charlotte's Josh Sims was there the minute Cam Newton made a group of special Panthers fans dreams come true over the weekend.
FOX 46 was able to catch up with one of the fans, Sean Crosby, who says he will never forget the moment he got to meet his favorite player.
It was a day the die-hard fan says he will always cherish, Cam Newton literally giving him the shirt off his back.
"I was completely starstruck. You know, here comes my favorite player. I was so caught off guard. I was like, 'No way he's coming over here.' My friends behind me were like, 'No Sean, Sean, he's coming.' I'm like yeah, this is about to be the coolest experience of my life," he said.
Crosby has been coming to Panthers Training Camp for six years, but never had a moment like that.
"He gave me a towel, it's pretty authentic, it's got the grass stains on it. He gave me his practice undershirt, that was pretty awesome. And he also gave me his signature headband," Crosby said.
The items are now added to his 'man cave' at his home in Tega Cay, South Carolina, joining a host of Panther memorabilia from pictures with star linebacker, Luke Kuechly and Coach Ron Rivera, to jerseys of all his favorite Panthers over the years.
"This team just means so much to me. They've given me all of the coolest experiences I've ever had, so it's more than just a team, it's kind of like family," Crosby said.
That family is crucial to Crosby who hasn't had the easiest life. He had dushen muscular distrofy, which is characterized by a progressive loss in muscle function and weakness.
Crosby, now 22, has been in his chair for about 10 years but that hasn't taken away his passion for his favorite player or his favorite team.
"I'm very thankful and blessed that Cam was able to be a part of that," he said.
