Stewart-Haas Racing announced driver Tony Stewart will miss the Daytona 500 after injuring his back in a non-race related accident.
Stewart fractured his L1 vertebra while he was using an all-terrain vehicle on vacation. He's being treated in a Charlotte hospital.
Stewart is retiring at the end of this NASCAR season. He turns 45 in May and missed a third of the 2013 season with a broken leg he sustained in a sprint car accident.
This news for Tony Stewart has to be upsetting. After announcing 2016 is his final season, he will miss the biggest race of the year.— Logan Sherrill (@LoganFox46) February 4, 2016
