NFL players voted to give Panthers Linebacker Thomas Davis the 2016 Bart Starr award, one of the NFL's most prestigious awards given to a player who shows great character on and off the field.
“It means a lot to win the Bart Starr award, and hearing that I won it from Mrs. [Cherry] Starr was exciting,” Davis said. “To be recognized for an award that is voted on by my fellow players and carries Mr. Starr’s name speaks volumes. I’m truly honored to be selected.”
Davis' work with his Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation focuses on giving middle-school aged kids the skills they need to become productive community leaders. His foundation focuses on academic achievement and leadership skills.
Davis will receive the award Super Bowl weekend at the Athletes in Action Super Bowl Breakfast.
Davis also won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2014 for his NFL accomplishments and charity work.
