CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The energy at UNC-Charlotte and around the area was sky high on Tuesday as the man now charged with revamping the 49ers basketball program was officially introduced.
Athletic Director Mike Hill introduced new head coach Ron Sanchez to a packed house at the Barnhardt center this afternoon.
The excitement surrounding the Charlotte 49er's athletic programs was palpable.
Prior to agreeing to run the 49ers hoops, Sanchez was considered if not the top, at least one of the top, assistants in the country while working under Tony Bennett at UVA and Washington State.
UNC-Charlotte has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2005, and Sanchez knows he has work to do.
He’s already conducted a couple of practices with his new team, and his first mission is to keep three kids who committed under Mark Price committed to the team.
