Thomas Davis says sale of Panthers is "bittersweet"

- After weeks of speculation, David Tepper was announced as the official buyer of the Carolina Panthers after a simple early morning tweet from the team.

Players received official word at nearly the same time as fans.

“Knowing that he has a football background, he has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a minority owner, now he is stepping in as a full-time owner of our football team I think that will make a world of difference versus having an owner that doesn’t have any football experience. So it’s going to be interesting,” said Linebacker, Thomas Davis.

FOX 46 Charlotte caught up with star linebacker Thomas Davis Wednesday night at The Comedy Zone as he kicked off his Defending Dreams Foundation charity weekend.

Davis says he’s looking forward to meeting David Tepper, but there are mixed feelings knowing the circumstances surrounding the sale of team.

Former owner Jerry Richardson is accused of sexual and racial misconduct. The NFL’s investigation into that matter will continue, despite Richardson’s voluntary sale of the team.

“You know it’s bitter sweet knowing that I have been working under the leadership of Mr. Richardson for going on 14 years now and to see him sell the football team like I said it’s a bittersweet moment and I hope he’s in a good place,” said Davis.

It is still unclear when new owner David Tepper will meet with players or when he will make his way to Charlotte.
