CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Keep pounding. It’s not just a saying, it’s a mantra, and its creator will be honored before the biggest games of the Panthers season tomorrow night.
As part of the NFL’s crucial catch initiative, Thursday night's game between the Panthers and the Eagles will be the first ever "Keep Pounding" night.
It will honor former Panthers player and coach Sam Mills. The team will wear his retired number 51 on their helmets.
Mills coined the team's slogan "keep pounding" while he was fighting his own battle against cancer during the 2003 NFC championship season.
NFL films will do its own honor for Mills with his own episode of ‘A Football Life,’ Friday on NFL network.
The Carolina Panthers take on the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night at Bank of America Stadium.
