DAVIDSON, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Last year of middle school. Playing against your rival. Tied game.
Luke Breen's three-pointer with one second on the clock gave Community School of Davidson a 37-34 win in Davidson Thursday night, against Pine Lake Preparatory.
Luke's mother, Betsy, tells FOX 46 Charlotte that it was a moment to remember as her husband Kevin arrived at their son's game with only 50 seconds left on the clock.
"He had just gotten back from a work trip and was trying to get through rush-hour traffic to make it to the game," Betsy Breen explained.
Not only did Kevin Breen get to see the end of the game - he saw his son finish in a stunning display, with a winning three-point shot.
The game had been tied 34-34, with expectations of it going into overtime, when the winning shot sent everyone out of their seats and on to the court to celebrate with Luke.
"Even the coaches and the high school team who had been waiting to practice, all got up out of their seats," Betsy Breen said. "It was just so cute that they were all excited."
Community School of Davidson has one game left, next Tuesday, Jan. 22 against St. Mark Catholic, to finish their season before play-offs begin.
