Will Rain Wash Away Preakness Win for Nyquist?

- With so much rain falling in the Carolina's this week it leaves us asking, "What are the odds that we'll see the sun this weekend?"  We're not alone, as early bets are being taken in Baltimore regarding weather reports surrounding the expected forecast at post time for the Expressbet.com Preakness Stakes (G1).

Fox 46 Meteorologist Nick Kosir informed me the rain we've been experiencing here today in Charlotte will be moving out of the area tonight.  Unfortunately, this low pressure system will head right up the coast line and come race time the same pressure system will be slightly south of the Baltimore, pin-wheeling rain and moisture into the area.  While Nick believes there may be some breaks in the rain by Saturday afternoon with points of on-again, off-again drizzle, temperatures are expected to stay in the 60's.

Even though most of the rain should occur before the 6:45pm (ET) post-time, this is just one more complication to think about in this race and which contenders favor a wet or muddy track.  Ironically, a wet track favors both Nyquist and Exaggerator.  Nyquist is notable to American Pharoah and the rain did not stop him last year at the 2015 Preakness or his bid for the Triple Crown.  Last month at Santa Anita, Exaggerator dominated in his quest for qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby on a sloppy track, and made up 21 lengths in a come from behind run for the win.  Nyquist's win in the Florida Derby was as expressive, but had an early lead in the race over undefeated Mohaymen on a wet surface proving he can handle any condition.
