CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 Charlotte - The first winter storm of the season is set to impact the Charlotte metro area this weekend.
The timing of the storm still remains Saturday evening through Sunday and into Monday morning.
Details on what we’ll see are still fuzzy at this time but the track of this storm will be the difference between a cold rain event and an ice/snow event.
If the storm takes a more southerly track there would be a better chance for a snow event. If it takes a more northerly track the Charlotte area would see more of a cold rain.
As of now models are suggesting that the storm could start with snow, then switch over to more of a rain/ice event Saturday night into Sunday. The storm is then expected to switch back over to more of a snow event on Monday before the storm exits the region.
The chances for winter weather with this system are highest in the mountains with a 50-70 percent chance probability of snow while the piedmont has a 30-50 percent chance.
There is still a lot of uncertainty with this system and the forecast will change so be sure to keep checking in with FOX 46 on air and online for updates.
