Heavy rain Friday could cause flooding

- Flood watches and warnings have been issued for many of our counties as heavy rain moves across the Charlotte area.

The damp and dreary conditions will continue today with showers moving through at times, so keep the umbrella handy. We have already picked up around an inch and a half rain causing some flooding issues in parts of the area.

Along with the wet weather this morning, patchy fog and reduced visibilities will be a concern until the winds start to pick up this afternoon. The winds will become pretty gusty out of the southwest this afternoon around 10-20 mph. High winds are also a potential over the Mountains causing a high wind warning to be issued for Ashe and Watauga counties until noon Saturday.

As the low pressure scoots out, clearing will begin outside of the mountains this evening. In the high country, it will be totally different with snow falling as temperatures quickly begin to drop off. The snow showers and gusty winds will continue in the Mountains through Saturday morning, so be careful! Accumulations are expected to be around 1-2" for most Mountain locations with locally higher amounts possible in the highest elevations.

The weekend is shaping up to be fairly nice with sunshine returning to the area. High temperatures will also hold in the 50s for both Saturday and Sunday. Little will change as we head into the Christmas holiday with clouds and sunshine over head to start the week.
