(FOX 46 WJZY) - By July, most Carolinians expect the heat. June and July 2018 have certainly brought the heat, but has it been hotter this year than last year?
Summer started June 21 and this year, it seems like we can’t catch a break from 90-degree heat. Assessing June 21 – July 5 for 2017 and 2018, we can honestly say it has definitely been hotter.
The first two weeks of summer this year have been, on average, six degrees hotter than last year. At this point last year, we had four 90-degree or higher days. This year, we’ve had thirteen!
In addition to the higher temperatures and humidity, the Charlotte area has been fairly dry. The area is not in a drought, but conditions are abnormally dry. We ended the month of June 2.23” below average rainfall totals. As of July 5th, Charlotte is 1.5 inches behind on rainfall for 2018.
Both rain and cooler temperatures are expected this weekend!
