IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) -- Busted at a beauty shop, an Iredell County man is charged with breaking in to the Harmony store not once, but three times.
Gail's Creations has sat along Sandy Springs Road in Harmony since 1970, but in the past few months the small beauty shop has been the target of several break-ins.
The Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell says Phillip Stroud was caught breaking in just after midnight Thursday and admitted to breaking in back in January and last September.
The 73-year-old shop owner was too angry to speak with FOX 46 Charlotte on camera, but said Stroud broke in once through the front door and again through a back door.
Once inside the owner says her cash box was stolen. Another time she says Stroud rummaged through the shop, stealing a wig off a mannequin and hair clips from a drawer.
After those two break-ins the Iredell County Sheriff started surveillance on the small shop and finally brought Stroud to justice early Thursday morning.
"At the time when he went there we were able to have our deputies respond and were be able to catch him in the act of the break in, in the middle of the night,” Campbell said.
Campbell says Phillip Stroud has a long criminal history. In fact, the sheriff says he's so dangerous they were trying to increase his bail so he stays in jail.
Court records show back in 2010 Stroud was arrested in Davie County for again breaking in to a beauty shop. The Sheriff says that time he robbed the owner with a knife and threatened to kill her.
"His violent and lengthy criminal history was an issue for us,” said Campbell.
Friday afternoon the Iredell County Sheriff was successfully able to get Stroud's bail increased from $5,000 to $60,000.
