NEWS PRODUCER (Full-Time, Regular):  WJZY-TV, FOX 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a News Producer who will be responsible for daily production of newscast (s) to include: setting up the story, interviews, writing, graphic coordination and social media posting. Must become very knowledgeable about the Charlotte region and develop meaningful contacts. Become fluent with the Fox 46 news brand and strive for excellence in headline writing skills. Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts. Level of performance requires a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style.  Aggressively participates in covering breaking news in and out of newscasts. Coordinate with web/social team to coordinate coverage for digital and on-air. Log and edit video for inclusion on scripts.  Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the newscast is on the air.  Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction to crews in the field and in studio.  Collaborate with Executive Producer prior to air and during newscasts about changes. Partner with newscast director before, during and after newscasts to accomplish creative and clean production. Work with reporters to develop story scripts.  Edit reporter scripts and provide feedback. Assign voice overs and VO-SOTs to reporters and anchors. Work with on-air staff by phone and in person to assist with story development and/or story support.  Write and post to station digital platforms.  Supervise and oversee the writers assigned to the shift.  Assign writing ideas to APs.  Edit AP scripts and provide feedback. Maintain open communication with News Director, the news management team and all station personnel to efficiently, respectfully and professionally complete news assignments.  Participate in news meetings to provide story and production ideas for any and all newscasts.  Participate in special projects and programming.  Available to work outside of scheduled hours. Constantly use verbal, audible, and visual abilities to perform essential functions. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Sits for extended period of time in order to accomplish essential duties.  Attend and participate in any company training seminars, meetings or other attendance required events.  Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities.  Occasionally bends stoops and crouches to arrange copy/script paper for work related functions.  Constantly operates PC to complete required news items and related materials.  Minimum of 2 years’ television news writing and producing experience. College degree in journalism or equivalent is preferred. iNews and Adobe Premiere Pro experience preferred. Must possess excellent news judgment. Knowledge of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County area is preferred. Dependability, strong writing skills and accuracy are crucial.

MULTI-MEDIA JOURNALIST (Full-Time, Regular):  WJZY-TV, the FOX Owned and Operated television station in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Multi-Media Journalist with the total package – a professional journalist who can track down and dig into a compelling story then shoot, write, edit and front it live – all while interacting with all digital platforms. The ideal candidate must be ready to work at a fast pace and stay well-informed on current events and local newsmakers. Must possess the ability to establish a network of contacts and work them to find and report news stories. The best candidate must be a self-starter with a great attitude and a desire to compete and to improve as a journalist.  FOX46 is part of the “newsroom of the future” movement. You will be working with 21st century newsgathering technology, operating as a self-contained and mobile content generator. Excellent communication, writing and grammar skills are required for both the broadcast and digital platforms. Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities.  A minimum of 3 years’ experience reporting news is required. Must be willing to work weekends. A Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism strongly preferred. Some training will be provided, if needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds, ability to walk with equipment up and down stairs and over rough terrain to complete essential job functions.

DIGITAL CONTENT MANAGER (Full-Time, Regular): We're hiring a Digital Content Manager to oversee our next-level team at WJZY Fox 46 in Charlotte, NC.  Reporting to the News Director, the Digital Content Manager will lead our team of local Digital Content Creators, who are focused on telling stories that truly matter to digital and social users.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee team that creates compelling, UX-focused news and event-based content relevant to local users and beyond, including text stories, photos/graphics, live streaming content, breaking news, and social media elements. Prioritize allocation of digital resources to cover the most important stories, based on data derived from real-time analytics and trends. Guide digital team’s editorial decisions. Serve as digital leader and resource in the newsroom to ensure station’s digital and social media dominance. Follow group standards for digital publishing. Maintain continuous communication with other FTS digital teams and Group Content Team. Other duties as deemed necessary and assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:  4+ years’ experience developing and publishing unique content, including news, for digital and social platforms preferred. Proven history as leader and/or project lead within a team. BA/BS degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications or related field with emphasis on digital publishing. Strong desire to advance in digital news career. Superior news judgement, writing and copy editing skills. Fanatical attention to detail. Thrive under pressure. Stellar communication skills. Social media expert. Proficient in content management systems, video publishing, live streaming, and digital analytics tools. Video and photo editing experience (Adobe products a plus).

LEAD PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN (Full-Time, Regular):  This position reports to the Production & Operations Manager.  The Lead Production Technician will operate systems, in the production control room, master control, studio, and audio booth for newscasts, promos, and special events. Ideal candidate must be able to operate studio cameras, audio board, news software, graphic systems and video switcher for newscasts and productions.  Must be proficient in floor directing and stage management, with a strong understanding of lighting and lighting control systems.  Additionally, during guest segments, will be responsible for positioning guests and making sure they are mic’d correctly.  Able to handle unplanned changes, and communicate those to the studio talent efficiently while adjusting floor configurations and shot requests.  Responsible for confirming all needed equipment is operational and ready for air. Must keep professional knowledge up to date with current broadcast technologies and determine how they might be utilized for broadcast and internet only production.  Must have an understanding of master control automation technology, quality control of all media and segmentation of programming.
Responsibilities and Duties:
•    Lead the studio floor operations.
•    Learn how to Direct and Technical Direct live and taped productions in a backup capacity.
•    Mix audio for newscasts and productions.
•    Train new hires on procedures and operations.
•    Function as a master control operator in a backup capacity.

Associate’s degree in television broadcasting (Production/Engineering) preferred.  Minimum 2 years’ production experience in live commercial television with heavy emphasis on news production and associated systems. Must have clear verbal skills and a patient, positive demeanor.  Regularly stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. PHOTOJOURNALIST (Full-Time, Regular): WJZY-TV, the FOX Owned and Operated duopoly television station in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Photojournalist with an eye to shoot, edit and gather sound from newsworthy events, locations or people for use in newscasts by performing the following duties: Shoots and edits breaking stories, live shots and other news stories as assigned. Occasionally writes packages and/or assembles natural sound packages. Gathers news in the field independently. Assist in gathering and posting stories on-line and to air. Must have the ability to visually tell compelling stories. Operates video camera and audio equipment creatively in diverse conditions and at times under extreme deadlines. Assists Operations department with studio camera and floor management.  Operates all live technology (i.e. Live U, KA trucks, etc.). Drives and operates company vehicles in a safe and defensive manner.  This includes driving in heavy metropolitan traffic, at night and in bad weather. Edits videotape for playback for air. Operates microwave trucks. Maintains vehicle and news gatheringequipment properly. Assist with newscasts outside the normal work schedule at time of severe weather conditions or breaking news. Meets all scheduling and broadcast deadlines. Must be involved in Social Media. Responsible for any and all equipment issued by FOX. Supports Local News Service as assigned. Has ability to work a flexible schedule. Comply with all Station and Department policies, procedures and guidelines related activities. Some in-studio camera duties required. Other duties as assigned.  Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on journalism and/or Communication preferred. Minimum of two years’ equivalent experience.  Knowledge of non-linear editing systems. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.  

News Schedules:

It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
