NEWS OPERATIONS MANAGER (Full-Time, Regular): WJZY/WMYT-TV, FOX 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a News Operations Manager. The News Operations Manager reports to the VP/News Director and is responsible for the day-to-day news and administrative operations. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of news coverage including daily assignments, planning and coverage of big events, special programming and live remote shows. Supervises all field operations for WJZY/WMYT, including the supervision of all field crews for news, “Good Day Charlotte” and editors. Assists with staff annual performance appraisal process. Trains, coaches and monitors the progress of MMJ’s and Photojournalists on field related equipment. Assists in the development of story ideas and execution. Responsible for the booking, scheduling and assigning of personnel and equipment for all field related operations. Assists in the evaluation, budgeting and purchasing of all field related equipment. Manages all news video, including feeds for quality control and video archiving for news purposes and FCC regulations. Maintains, tracks, troubleshoots and regularly monitors equipment and/or systems assigned to news staff for accountability, including technical and editorial problems within editing. Evaluates new technology and makes recommendations for budgets. Edits for newscasts and special projects. Works closely with Production Operations Manager to serve as a liaison between News, Engineering and IT Departments. Maintains strong and close working relationship with news management team to resolve problems and to create and execute new ideas. Must have working knowledge of newsroom budget and AP invoice system to coordinate purchases, maintenance and repair of all station vehicles, cell phones, air cards and any other related equipment. Oversees news dubs for clients, subpoenas and other programming. Acts as liaison between BitCentral. Assembles, maintains and distributes internet transmission tools and newsgathering kits. Maintains user interface and trains staff with the FOX Fiber News Network. Other duties as assigned. Complies with all FTS computer requirements – myfoxpay, Navigator training, password protection, etc. Complies with all FTS and Station policies. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required in all aspects of field operations. Knowledge of automobile and truck repair a plus. Knowledge of newsroom computer systems and satellite news gathering required. Must have minimum of 2 years’ managerial experience. Good leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills is essential in this role. Adept to stay up-to-date on current events and on station technology as well as other technologies for potential inclusion in WJZY/WMYT operations. Must be able to report to work to assist with newscasts outside of the normal work schedule at times of severe weather conditions or breaking news. ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE (Full-Time, Regular): WJZY/WMYT, Fox 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a highly motivated Account Executive who will help local and regional advertisers achieve their business objectives through effective TV and digital advertising. The ideal candidate must be able to identify qualified targets, use strong communication and presentation skills throughout the sales process and maintain a high closing ratio. We are looking for someone that can bring together all our resources (FOX Network Prime and Sports, My Network TV, Digital Sponsorships and Promotions) in a creative manner to achieve a high level of results. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to, strategically negotiating existing business along with obtaining incremental dollars from the existing market and building strong client relationships. Responsible for completing administrative tasks such as order entry, weekly forecasts and reports, new business trackers and the credit and collection of all accounts.
The ideal candidate must possess a solid knowledge of the market, advertising community and have a proven record of sales accomplishments. Must be a self-starter with strong verbal and written communication skills. We are looking for someone who is energetic, positive, creative and passionate to succeed in the highly competitive environment of media sales. Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking are critical to the position. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required and knowledge of media-related software and research tools such as Wide Orbit, Wide Orbit Media Sales, Scarborough and DirectHEAT is a plus. PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN (Full-Time, Regular): WJZY-TV, FOX 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Production Technician. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operation of the studio and its equipment during live and recorded production. These duties cover the operation of studio cameras, lighting console, video monitors, floor direction, light studio maintenance, studio cleaning, and other duties as assigned. Other Duties include: Operation of multiple studio configured cameras and proficient floor direction during fast paced newscasts, breaking news, and special projects. Operation and strong knowledge of a PC based lighting console, that utilized DMX addressing of all LED studio fixtures. Assist the audio operator in microphone placement on guests, conduct microphone checks, battery swaps during broadcasts, and other trouble shooting from the studio. Studio responsibilities are the daily setup prior to each newscast, checking equipment early and reporting any issues or concerns to the Engineer on Duty or the Production & Operations Manager so they can be repaired or addressed. Knowledge of studio backup systems, and how to engage them in a timely manner. Depending on need and the mastery of this position, there are many opportunities to be trained in many aspects of live production, news, and master control operations. Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays, with a flexible schedule to accommodate breaking news and weather event coverage is required of this position. The ideal candidate for this position must understand that news is unpredictable. (Shifts may be expanded for breaking news coverage.) NEWS PRODUCER (Full-Time, Regular): WJZY-TV, FOX 46 in Charlotte, NC is seeking a News Producer who will be responsible for daily production of newscast (s) to include: setting up the story, interviews, writing, graphic coordination and social media posting. Must become very knowledgeable about the Charlotte region and develop meaningful contacts. Become fluent with the Fox 46 news brand and strive for excellence in headline writing skills. Research stories online and on telephone with appropriate sources and contacts. Level of performance requires a superior command of grammar and broadcast news-writing style. Aggressively participates in covering breaking news in and out of newscasts. Coordinate with web/social team to coordinate coverage for digital and on-air. Log and edit video for inclusion on scripts. Accountable for editorial decisions and/or changes made in the control room while the newscast is on the air. Communicates via IFB to provide producer direction and talent instruction to crews in the field and in studio. Collaborate with Executive Producer prior to air and during newscasts about changes. LEAD PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN (Full-Time, Regular): This position reports to the Production & Operations Manager. The Lead Production Technician will operate systems, in the production control room, master control, studio, and audio booth for newscasts, promos, and special events. Ideal candidate must be able to operate studio cameras, audio board, news software, graphic systems and video switcher for newscasts and productions. Must be proficient in floor directing and stage management, with a strong understanding of lighting and lighting control systems. Additionally, during guest segments, will be responsible for positioning guests and making sure they are mic’d correctly. Able to handle unplanned changes, and communicate those to the studio talent efficiently while adjusting floor configurations and shot requests. Responsible for confirming all needed equipment is operational and ready for air. Must keep professional knowledge up to date with current broadcast technologies and determine how they might be utilized for broadcast and internet only production. Must have an understanding of master control automation technology, quality control of all media and segmentation of programming.

It is an essential part of all newsroom employees to be willing to adjust hours to meet the fluctuating demands of a news team in a competitive market. If special events fall on the employee’s day off he/she may be required to participate, if requested. Varied hours may also be required based on the needs of the department. From time to time may be required to produce newscasts to help cover sick/vacation time of others. As part of the news team, holidays that fall Monday through Friday will be worked, time-off requests are approved by management. No vacations will be approved one week prior and during television-rating periods.
