CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - One person has been taken into custody after leading officers on an erratic chase in a stolen vehicle all over east and south Charlotte Friday afternoon, according to CMPD.
Officers spotted the stolen 2012 Nissan Versa at 11:05 a.m. in south Charlotte. The driver refused to pull over, and was seen speeding through intersections and not stopping for red lights.
A FOX 46 Charlotte crew was in the area when officers pulled their guns on the suspect at the intersection of Shamrock Drive and North Sharon Amity Road, before he sped off again.
Police were asking drivers to use extreme caution as the car sped through neighborhoods and busy roadways. The suspect was captured along Creighton Drive around 12:45 p.m. in east Charlotte.
“I saw them running down this way and the cops ran behind the building and a couple more showed up and they just got him," said witness, Henry Miller.
The suspect is being interviewed by detectives and his name will be released once he is formally charged, police said.
CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney commented on Friday's pursuit on Twitter stating, "Very proud of the professionalism, restraint and outstanding police work by our officers today! Their efforts were performed with the highest regard for the safety of all. I am proud of this effort, but not at all surprised."
