The preliminary information indicates that the driver of the black Honda Pilot, Mitchell Glenn Jones, was going southeast on Old Statesville Rd. attempting to make a left turn onto I-485.

The Chevrolet truck, driven by Curtis Eugene Thompson, was traveling northwest on Old Statesville Rd. towards the I-485 outer ramp at a high rate of speed and both vehicles collided in the intersection.
