1 man dead in E. Charlotte shooting; police investigating

UPDATE 4/21/2018:  Investigators say the person who was shot Friday evening has died at CMC main. He has been identified as 27-year-old Eskinder Dawit Asefaw. This has been upgraded to a homicide investigation. No arrests have been made at this time. Stay with Fox 46 Charlotte for updates on this developing story.


1 person was seriously injured in an east Charlotte shooting, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.

The shooting took place in the 1500 block of Wembley Dr. Officers were called to the scene at 4:48 p.m. Upon arrival, they found one person wiht an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to the hospital by Medic with life-threatening injuries.

Homicide Unit investigators are handling the case, canvassing the area for witnesses and gathering potential evidence. The investigation is in its early stages, police say.
