1-year-old dies in Lancaster County, sheriff's office investigating

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Department is investigating after a 1-year-old child was found unresponsive in a home.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 deputies were called to a house on 14th St. in Lancaster County in reference to an unresponsive child.

Upon arrival, deputies were met by the 1-year-old boy's father, who was carrying the child out of the home. They took the toddler back inside where deputies attempted to render aid until EMS officials arrived on scene and took over. The boy was then taken to Springs Memorial Hospital where he died about an hour later.

Deputies say the child's father, the father's girlfriend and two other toddlers were in the home at the time of the incident.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “A thorough investigation of the home and the facts and circumstances of this child’s death will be conducted, and the autopsy findings will be reviewed along with other evidence gathered in the case.”

The autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7.
