14-year-old accidentally shot in Rowan County

A teenager was flown to the hospital after deputies said he was accidentally shot in his side Wednesday morning.  

The accidental shooting occurred on the 2700 block of Needmore Rd. Two male teens were outside playing with a shot gun around 11:00 a.m.

One of the teens was holding the loaded shotgun and attempted to lower the hammer on the weapon when the gun discharged. The blast struck the other teen boy and was rushed to Baptist Hospital having to undergo emergency surgery.  

The teen is currently in stable condition according to the Rowan County Sheriff's office. 

Rebecca Cranford, 35, is a resident at the Needmore Rd address and was questioned by police upon her arrival home. Cranford was charged a citation with a misdemeanor charge of failing to store a firearm to protect minors. Cranford will appear in court in February of 2018.
