A teen was taken into custody after he reportedly stole a vehicle and led officers on a chase through Charlotte Thursday afternoon, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

Police say the 15-year-old boy shot into a business in the 3100 block of Monroe Rd. where he had also broken into a car.

A woman saw the teen breaking into the car and advised someone in the business who went to confront the suspect.

That's when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired several shots, hitting the business. He then fled the scene on foot.

While officers were canvassing the area, they received another armed robbery call where a woman stated that a suspect held her at gunpoint in the 2500 block of Cranbrooke Lane in south Charlotte and took her white Hyundai.

A short time later, officers spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to pull that vehicle over. The driver did not stop and a short chase followed. As the suspect was attempting to flee, he hit a power pole and was taken into custody.

The suspect suffered minor injuries related to the vehicle wreck and was taken to the Carolinas Medial Center for treatment. Upon release from the hospital he will be formally charged.

Billingsville Elementary was placed on lock-down briefly due to police activity in the area.
