15-year-old killed when log crashes through passenger side of car

A 15-year-old Hibriten High School student was killed when the vehicle he was traveling in struck a logging truck Tuesday morning in Lenoir, police said. 

The wreck happened at 7:43 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the intersection of Wilkesboro Blvd. (NC 18) and Taylorsville Road. 

Police said based on their preliminary findings, the logging truck, owned by Pack Brothers Logging and Grading, LLC, was turning right onto Taylorsville Road from Wilkesboro Blvd. when a Ford F-150 that was preparing to go through the intersection struck a log extending from the rear of the logging truck. 

The driver of the Ford F-150, Brian Keith Oliver, 50, survived the crash but the passenger, Wesley Alfred Oliver, 15, died on scene. 

Police are currently investigating the crash and reviewing statements. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
