Investigators believe 17-year-old Marquies Rason Waters and at least one other suspect broke into the man's home shortly before the shooting, awakening the homeowner.

The homeowner began yelling toward the suspects who then broke out a window to exit the home, authorities said. A short while later, Waters and at least one of the suspects returned to possibly retrieve a book bag left behind.

The homeowner saw Waters on the back porch and fire shots, fatally wounding Waters, authorities said.

Sheriff's detectives say they are still conducting interviews. So far no charges have been filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
