2 charged in February murder of Charlotte man

Two people have been charged with a February murder, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. 

Mykel Washington, 19, and Andre Kashawn Clark, 19, with the murder of Damien Alonzo Mackins.

On Friday, Feb. 2  Mackins was found in the 9100 block of Newell Baptist Church Rd. after someone had called 911 for 'a welfare check.' Police arrived on scene and found him dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Washington was arrested and charged on March 13 for robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon stemming from an incident prior to the murder.

He was taken to the police station where he was interviewed by detectives. Inforamtion gathered druing the interview led officers to charge him with first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. 

Detectives identified Clark as the second suspect in this case. He was arrested and charged with first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon on March 14. Clark also received drug charges.

Police say this is an ongoing, active investigation.
