CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - A second person has died after reports of multiple shootings within 10 minutes of each other Thursday night in northeast Charlotte, police said.
Officers with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police got a call about 7:17 p.m. that a person had been shot in the 6500 block of Spring Garden Lane.
According to Medic, one person, identified as Raheem Shawdo Hammond, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Another two people were taken to CMC with life-threatening injuries.
One of the people taken to the hospital, identified as Gary Stevenson Jr., 21, died as a result of their injuries, police said. Their families have been notified.
Another shooting was reported on W. Sugar Creek Road at the Shell gas station near I-85 North. One person was being treated for life-threatening injures and later taken to CMC, Medic said.
According to CMPD, this was actually a fourth victim from the Spring Garden Lane shooting.
Investigators said it appears that the victim and the suspect knew one another and were involved in some sort of altercation when the shooting occurred.
At this time detectives said they are not looking for any additional suspects.
A third incident happened at the Mallard Creek Apartments in the 400 block of Michelle Linnea Drive, where two people were taken to CMC for life-threatening injures.
Investigators said the two people who were shot do not live at the apartment complex. Police are trying to figure out why they were there.
Brandon Pruitt lives in the area and says this shooting is uncharacteristic for the neighborhood.
"It definitely scares me. Definitely makes me worried about my safety and the safety of others around here," Pruitt said. "It makes you question, 'do i need to move or is this something that is going to continue to happen?'"
This is a developing story. Keep refreshing as more details become available.
