IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Two teenagers are facing multiple charges after they broke into a church and stole items from the place of worship, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The break-in happened on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Bright Light Baptist Church at 478 Trinity Road north of Statesville.
As deputies arrived at the scene, they met with the 911 callers who told them when he unlocked and entered the church he heard running in the hallway near the pastor's office. The caller went on to tell deputies that he saw two male teens running away from the church through the cemetery.
The two teens were located a short time later on Midway Road, near the church. One suspect was identified as 12-years-old. The second suspect, Jonathan Whitney Ridgeway, is 19.
While speaking with the suspects, deputies said Ridgeway attempted to run away again. Both were detained and searched. Items from the church were located on them, deputies said.
Ridgeway has been charged with felony breaking and entering, and entering a place of worship, felony larceny after breaking and entering, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The 12-year-old will be charged through Juvenile Services.
