CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Two teenagers were taken to the hospital after a shooting near Commonwealth High School in east Charlotte, police said.
The shooting occurred at 10:28 a.m. Friday, March 29 in the 5100 block of Commonwealth Avenue, at the corner of Winterfield Place and Central Avenue.
CMPD tells FOX 46 Charlotte they believe the shooting was not random and the suspect(s) and victims knew of each other. Police say an altercation broke out on Central Avenue, which led to the shooting.
The two teenagers, whose name and ages were not released, suffered serious injuries, and one of the teen's injuries are life-threatening, police said.
As a precaution, Winterfield Elementary was placed on lockdown but shortly lifted after officers determined there was no threat to the students or school.
"It's just horrendous. It's gut-wrenching," neighbor David Allen said.
