20,000 affected by Monroe water main break

City of Monroe officials have located a water main break that is causing nearly 20,000 residents and businesses to have water problems Friday morning.

Officials searched for the water main break Friday morning after a significant lost in water pressure was reported around 4:30 a.m.. Officials say they located the break in a remote area off Walk-up Avenue around Bearskin Creek around 11 a.m..

Crews are working to repair the leak in order to restore full service. Officials are using water diverted from reserve tanks to restore most of the pressure lost in the system by the leak.

Residents are asked to call the city's water resource department at 704-282-4601 to report any large amounts of standing or running water.
