Three firefighters were hurt and one had to be taken to the hospital while responding to a house fire Monday morning in Cornelius, officials say.

Crews from Cornelius Fire were called to the 21000 block of W. Catawba Avenue about a house fire. Flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming out of the home.

Neighbors tell FOX 46 Charlotte that a woman in her 20s lives in the home and that she had no idea her house was on fire until a jogger banged on her door. She was able to get out safely with her two dogs.

Cornelius Fire Captain EJ McCormick confirmed to FOX 46 Charlotte that a firefighter became disoriented and needed air. Another crew member was able to get him air and get him out safely, McCormick said. The firefighter was taken to Novant Presbyterian Huntersville as a precaution.

Two other firefighters were injured. Capt. McCormick said one suffered a back injury and the other cut their hand. They are expected to be okay.

Crews from Huntersville, Davidson, and Charlotte also assisted.

No word on what started the fire, where it started, if it's a total loss or of there is foul play.
